Currently there are no state requirements and regulations in effect in the state or CA. However, this does NOT mean that there are no laws in effect at all.

In some states such as CA and GA for example a variety of license requirements within the different municipalities exist. California licensing is regulated by city or county.

To learn about the rules and regulations regarding massage/bodywork in your area you will have to contact the local authority in your area, the court house, police station, town hall, etc. Other sources of information would be the AMTA www.amtamassage.org and ABMP www.abmp.com.

* This state has "health freedom" laws. Supporters of these types of laws often refer to it as freedom of access for consumers because the laws basically state that there are no qualifications to practice any sort of alternative healthcare as long as you disclose to your client a statement of your credentials and a "client bill of rights." Without a separate massage therapy licensing law, massage is held in with the other alternative practices.

California Healing Arts College in Los Angelos, California offers a Massage Therapist - Master program: which provides training in deep tissue therapy, sports, oscillation, shiatsu, massage theory and practical professional experience.

Graduates will be able to apply for the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork Exam (NCBTMB).

The Western College of Southern California Massage Therapy program is designed to provide the indepth and clinical training necessary to prepare you for a position as a certified Massage Therapist. You will be provided with knowledge and skills in:
